In the six years since operations began at its facil-ity near Nanfong, Jiangsu Province, about two hundred kilometres west of Shanghai along the great Yangtze River, Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group (RSHI) has evolved to become the largest privately-owned shipbuilder in China. It is also the country's leading builder of Suezmax tankers, a position consolidated in December by a multi-ship deal for ten (plus options for ten) 157000dwt vessels for Global Union Shipping.The order boosted the yard's 2011 order-book which, by the end of the year, had already registered new orders for 40 vessels with a total contract value exceeding US$2bn, a significant achievement in a depressed shipbuilding market.
