Einfluss instationärer Betriebszustände auf die Lagerung von Propellerwellen

The propeller shafts of big ships rotate in journal bearings usually lubricated with oil. In the last few years some stern tube bearings of passenger vessels were severely damaged, mostly after sharp changes of the ship's course when sailing at high speeds. A software-tool has been developed to calculate the bearing behaviour under instationary conditions taking account of hydrodynamic forces at the propeller. Results and calculations for a RoRo ship with two propellers are presented.
