The industry speaks

Our recent comments on the poor performance of the smaller tonnage marine industry as far as promotion is concerned drew several interesting comments. Unsurprisingly, several felt that journals like ours should be more proactive in seeking out news and technical information, and rely less on being fed details by the industry. We cannot disagree, but the problem is that the economics of modern publishing allow neither the time nor the manpower to do as much of this as we would like, so we have to rely substantially on the companies, and, more significantly, the PR -agencies to whom they pay often large fees.
