Water tractors assist port development

Shanghai Deepwater Port is a container harbour currently under construction in Shanghai, China, and once completed, it will be the world's largest container port. Fifty berths, with an annual capacity of 25 million standard containers (TEU), are planned. From October 2007, the cargo ships will be assisted by two Voith water tractors (VWT), both when entering or leaving the port. This is the first time that Voith Turbo Marine has delivering VWTs directly to a Chinese end customer, that is, Shanghai Port Technology Engineering Service Corp. These 30m long and 11.2m wide VWTs have been designed specifically for the new harbour.
