The pumps are designed for a capacity of 1400m3/hr with a discharge pressure of 140mwc at 2000rpm, driven via a Fischcon Gearbox from the front-end power take off (PTO) system of the Niigata 8L28HLX main engines running at 750rpm. In the Fischcon system the gearbox is close coupled with the horizontal split case centrifugal pump. The split case pumps have a double suction inlet providing the lowest possible NPSHr (net positive suction head required), preventing excessive noise due to cavitation and vibration which can occur with single inlet end-suction pumps in FiFi I applications.
