In order to familiarise its workforce with this means of construction, Danish Yachts initiated its own 'Carbon School' in October 2013, a programme which will see all of the company's shop-floor staff undergo hands-on training and assessment, to boost their expertise in composite production. The course is the brainchild of Steve Smith, operational development manager, who tells Ship & Boat International: "Of 65 people on the shop-floor, we have about 45 who are specialists in composites. We need to take everyone through this training; to spread the workload, eliminate downtime and ensure that everyone understands the importance of the technologies and tests we use. This isn't something you can run over in a week, but remains a constant process of skillset improvements."
