Saft selected for Project Zoza megayacht

Saft Batteries has been contracted to provide the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery systems that will power the forthcoming 'Project Zoza' megayacht - a six-engine, hybrid megayacht under construction at Benetti in Italy. The yacht will be fitted with an electrical power plant featuring a pair of battery systems, generating a total capacity of 3MWh, thereby curbing emissions while in harbour and drastically reducing noise and vibrations. Saft comments: "The two batteries will deliver power at 600V using Saft's air-cooled Li-ion Super-Iron Phosphate [SLFP] electrochemistry." Certified by DNV GL and Lloyd's Register, the SLFP batteries reportedly feature advantages such as reduced power-to-energy drain, a wider operating temperature range and superior battery level performance compared to conventional Li-ion technologies.
