Designed for year-round operation on a lifeline route in the waters off south-west Iceland - an area subject to extreme Atlantic wind and wave action, strong currents and frequent storms - the 72m ferry Herjolfur promises increased service dependability and reduced environmental impact. Incorporating a high-capacity battery pack and diesel-electric plant, the Polish-built vessel has superseded a ferry of the same name on the short crossing from the mainland at Landeyjahofn to Vestmannaeyiar (the Westman Islands).
