Sex education beyond school: implications for practice and research

摘要

The negative consequences of teenage sexual behaviour are issues of concern in Britain and many other western countries. Over one-quarter of British young people are reported to become sexually active prior to the age of 16 and the rate of teenage pregnancy remains one of the highest in Western Europe. Current UK Government policy on sex education highlights the provision of skills for a??safe sexa?? at school to reduce teenage pregnancy rates. This paper argues that school cannot alone provide sufficient guidance to change teenage sexual behaviour, as school, family, religion, peers and media all have their part to play.
