Jotun takes smart robotic approach

Sandefjord-based coatings manufacturer, Jotun, has launched what it claims is a revolutionary technology for keeping ships' hulls free of fouling, based on digital technology and smart algorithms. By using a remotely controlled robot, HullSkater, stored on board, hulls can be cleaned as microscopic microfouling develops, before it affects hull resistance and fuel economy, the company said, and before it becomes a biosecurity risk, requiring waste collection.
