The 65-meter submarine weaved its way to the nearby dive point as it prepared for its monthly torpedo exercise. Konstantinos Konto-giannakos, commander of the Greek submarine force, pointed out that this was the place in 480 B.C., where hundreds of ships had been sunk in the battle of Salamis, a turning point in the Greco-Persian wars.
