Henry the First at the Forefront of Naval Aviation

Lloyd, Henry and John, along with their siblings who served, built on a growing family legacy of service to America at sea. The irony is the Mustin who had perhaps the most remarkable career in establishing the foundation for the family legacy never achieved flag rank. Indeed, John's great-grandfather, Henry C. Mustin, initially was passed over for captain. The other notable difference in career paths was that the first Henry C. Mustin gained notoriety in the air. Of note, the Wright brothers' first flight was still seven years distant when Henry became the first Mustin to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1896. As with succeeding generations, Henry first made his mark as a blackshoe.
