Roughead Touts Navy as 'Force for Good' in Northern Virginia

A dm. Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations (CNO), was guest speaker during a busy joint meeting of the Navy League's Northern Virginia Council and Mid-Atlantic Region Sept. 9 that included the presentation of a new U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps (NSCC) scholarship, the honoring of a "wounded warrior" and the U.S. Coast Guard Sailor of the Quarter from Station Washington, and the adoption of a local U.S. Marine Corps unit.rnThe dinner meeting, held at the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va., was attended by about 100 Navy Leaguers, sea services members and guests, including National President J. Michael McGrath and his wife, Gloria. Marine Lance Cpl. Nathan Savage, who was wounded by an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan in June, was a special guest at the event. Savage, of Albuquerque, N.M., was introduced by Region President James H. Offutt and given a standing ovation by the gathering for his service and sacrifice.
