When I was in high school, my family took a trip to Washington, D.C., and it was my first time ever at the Capitol. I got to see all the monuments, go to the Smithsonian museum and the White House, and I was really inspired by that. I realized how great a country America was. At the end of the trip, we went to Annapolis [Md.] and took a tour of the United States Naval Academy. I kind of got enamored with the academy while I was there. I really was attracted to the idea of participating in something bigger than myself.
