"Amphibiosity" was the common link among senior leaders and key staff from 23 Asia-Pacific nations attending the second annual U.S. Pacific Command Amphibious Leaders Symposium, held July 10-14 in San Diego. 1. Top U.S. Marine Corps and Navy commanders and their Pacific Rim partners discussed and shared amphibious capabilities and lessons, and learned how complementary capabilities can work together in various military operations and contingencies. 2. Participants represented a range of relationships and capabilities: Treaty partners such as Japan, Australia and New Zealand; close allies big and small, like Canada, Tonga and Maldives; and those with growing military ties, like Vietnam. 3. Attendees worked through scenarios during a tabletop exercise and watched a sea-basing logistics operation at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
