Multi-source data fusion of big spatial-temporal data in soil, geo-engineering and environmental studies

In the last decades, modern Information and Communication Tech-nologies (ICT) and the increasing capability of data storage devices and facilities enable collecting large datasets acquired through different sources. The global amount of data is experiencing exponential growth. It is estimated that all digital technologies will produce data in the order of 10~(21) bytes (i.e. zettabytes) over the next few years (Reinsel et al., 2017; Phoon et al., 2020). This trend is also fostered by recent advances in sensing technologies, which provide an ever-growing amount of high-quality and high-resolution data (Viscarra Rossel and Bouma, 2016): we are definitely in the Era of big data!
