Trends in Water Reuse and Desalination Technology Development in Japan and Recent Issues

Against a backdrop of issues such as increased worldwide demand for water, global water shortages, pollution and the deteriorating quality of water resources, the needs for large amount of new water resources and guaranteed water safety levels are on the increase. There are high hopes that introducing water reuse and desalination technology will help secure sustainable water resources. Recycle of water, use water rationally through methods such as cascading, reclamation of waste water and sewage, seawater desalination and so on, that is, the developing of non-conventional water resources is required.
