Japan has been promoting energy saving since the first oil crisis, as a result present energy consumption had significantly decrease of 35% approx. against the GNP compared to the demand at that time. However, when considering energy consumption trends these days, changes in life style, the pursuit of more luxury and comfort, widespread use of automated office machines and increases in the volume of transportation have increased energy consumption by an average of 3.1% a year over the last seven years, mainly in the domestic and transportation sectors.
