PEER REVIEW PROCESS - ITS HISTORY AND EVOLUTION*

Peer review, a process to adjudicate the suitability of a manuscript for publication in a journal through review by "peers" from the same subject area, apparently seems to be a modern phenomenon. The concept originated more than a thousand years ago. The peer review process has undergone numerous changes over time with the advent of technology. The present paper presents the origin of this concept and the history of its evolution with time.
