Alternative Method for Rapid Seed Multiplication of Gossypium arboreum GMS Based Hybrids

摘要

The phenomenon of heterosis has been extensively exploited for increasing the production of cotton in India. The major constraints in the spread of hybrid of cotton cultivar is the high cost of seed production by hand emasculation and pollination. The spread of hybrid cotton in central and south India has become possible only because of available of labour at reasonable rates. Unless hybrid seeds are produced in large quantity at cheaper rates, the spread of hybrids could not be achieved at faster rate. Hence, present investigations were undertaken to find out alternative method of hand emasculation/ pollination and planting of GMS A x B seeds and uprooting male fertile plants from seed production plot.
