Qualitative Composition of Soil Micro Arthropods in Sugarcane Farming System

Soil micro arthropod is one of the important component of soil ecosystem and play a vital role in soil metabolism and recycling of nutrients. They are responsible for maintenance of soil health. Inspite of eco-friendly importance of micro arthropod, very little attention has been paid by the scientists in the past. Only a few references were available in India up to sixtees. Chaudhuri and Roy mentioned in their paper that, there are reasons to believe that animal life of the soil plays a role in its economy though, hardly appreciated in our country and the activity of the micro fauna is of great importance in the determination of the characters and fertility of the soil. Investigations have made striking progress on soil micro arthropods in seventies and eighties. But, it is still in an infant stage with the fast changing scenario of cropping system. Sugarcane crop remain in the field for a very long time by way of ratooning. Hence, interaction with the soil micro arthropod is much more higher in sugarcane compared to other crops. But, very scanty references are available on soil micro arthropods in sugarcane farming system. Present paper is a step ahead on this line.
