摘要

Only one percent of the total water on Earth is fit for human consumption. with increasing population, the per capita availability of water in many regions has decreased to scarcity level. Prevailing global climate changes especially the global warming trend further reduce the amount of water available for human consumption especially in the vast arid and semi-arid regions. Conversely, some regions are prone to floods which are also aggravated by the global climate changes. The underlying goal of the APN-supported South Asia Water Project was to study the climate change and its impact on water resources and to promote peaceful relations among countries in South Asia through cooperative sharing of information and technologies for coping with extremes of weather resulting from climate change due to global warming. Fred J. Hansen Institute for World Peace provided technical support to propagate measures to the resource poor farmers through user-friendly multimedia kits to mitigate the impacts of the extreme events.
