Clinical, Pharmacognostical and Chemical Evaluation of Galactogogue Activity of Asparagus racemosus Wild

Four samples of powdered roots of Asparagus racemosus ( sample A : powdered, original A. racemosus roots ; sample H : Powdered A. racemosus roots procured from M/S Herby House, 232 D, A.P.C Road, Calcutta 700 004 ; sample S : powdered A. racemosus roots collected from S.V.S.P hospital, Calcutta; Sample Z : powdered A. racemosus roots supplied by M/S Zandu Pharmaceuticals) were screened for their medicinal efficacy by clinical studies mainly In respect of their galatogogue activity. This was confirmed by estimating the prolactin hormone level of pre and post-treated lactatlng mothers having symptoms of deficient lactation. The results obtained were also ratified by the pharmacognostical and chemical studies of these samples. Significant improvement (p < 0.001) in galactogogue activity was found In case of all samples while variations across samples resulted due to minor pharmacognostical & chemical constitutional differences.
