Normally transparent polymer dispersed liquid crystal (NT-PDLC) that has a polymer network dispersed in the liquid crystal (LC) layer has become popular in transparent displays. The polymer concentration is, in general, fairly low, so its mechanical stability is not high enough for application to flexible displays. To improve the mechanical stability of NT-PDLC, we developed a two-step ultraviolet exposure method, where the first exposure is for polymer wall formation and the second exposure is for the polymer network. Good mechanical stability and electro-optical properties were achieved for the flexible NT-PDLC cells, which were made by using bisphenol A dimethacrylate as a monomer.
