摘要

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's procurement contract with Microsoft has sparked a debate over the security risks involved in standardizing on a single platform, especially one that has been recently targeted by crippling computer worms. The DHS, in July, announced a five-year, $90 million contract with Microsoft. The contract names Microsoft as the primary technology provider to the DHS, supplying desktop and server software. The deal drew sharp criticism from the Computer & Communications Industry Association, which sent a letter to the secretary of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, urging him to reconsider the decision in light of the Blaster and SoBig.F worms. In his August 27 letter, Ed Black, CCIA president and CEO, described the recent barrage of computer worms as more evidence of flaws in Microsoft software.
