摘要

This month's MARS reports (see page 42) include two hand injuries that have communication, albeit in different guises, cited as one of the contributory factors. In the first report - Hand injury during casting off- there was apparently no communication with the bridge and the unsupervised crew members were taking orders from a daughter vessel during a ship-to-ship operation. In the second incident - Index finger crushed - one inexperienced deckhand did not follow instructions resulting in his finger being crushed. In the second report it was suggested that sometimes, showing as well as explaining, helps increase seafarers' understanding of the task in hand and the risks involved.
