Maritime school set up

Crew management firm Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC) has ventured into education and training, setting up and launching a maritime school in Cabuyao, Laguna (40km south of Manila). In partnership with one of Manila's leading engineering colleges, the Mapua-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training will start to accept students from next month. The school represents an industry-academic link that aims to further develop competitive maritime professionals in the Philippines to meet industry standards of competence, PTC said. The school's role is crucial in light of the worldwide shortage of marine officers, which is projected to reach 27,000 in 2015, PTC said in a statement.
