P&I Clubs would probably support carriage of anything that could help reduce accidents. As one commentator told SASI: "Don't hit, burn, sink or lose anything and they are perfectly happy." Because of this, Stephen Roberts, associate director claims for the London P&l Club, has no objection to the compulsory carriage of anything that might help reduce the size and frequency of insurance claims. He feels sure that bridge navigation watch alarms (BNWAS) could make a useful contribution towards reducing the number of collisions and groundings, but he does not see it as a priority.
