Tanker security fears

Security for tankers bringing petroleum and LNG to US shores has come under scrutiny as Congress's watchdog agency revealed that "the Coast Guard has insufficient resources to meet its own self-imposed standards, such as escorting ships carrying liquefied natural gas". The report, issued on 9 January by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), projects that security demands will become more acute as more LNG platforms are set to go online this year -prompting even more vessel calls.
