'Cuts make us stronger'

The UK's Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) can emerge stronger from looming budget cuts, believes the organisation's new CEO. Vice Admiral Sir Alan Massey, who succeeded Peter Cardy earlier in the year, acknowledged that the MCA would not be immune from the UK coalition government's Comprehensive Spending Review, and "will inevitably be smaller". However, he is convinced there is enough unity to follow through to a better MCA, where "there will be fewer people, but they will be in place where needed, better trained and better remunerated".
