No shelter from piracy storm

There is worrying evidence that fear of attack from Somali pirates is forcing ships farther from shore, exposing them to greater subsidiary risks. One vessel that attempted to avoid the risk of piracy, the 3,620dwt Dubai Moon, sank in May after it ran into Cyclone Bandu in the Gulf of Aden. The ship was carrying a cargo of cars that shifted in the stormy weather, creating a list while it was about 90nm southwest of the Yemeni island of Socotra, in the Arabian Sea.
