Fantasy and reality in MOL training strategy

Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) carried out a table-top drill on 19 May based on an imagined collision involving one of its vessels. MOL also reported that it would provide training to students in the Philippines and had installed a new simulator at its training centre in the country. The May scenario saw MOL-owned bulk carrier Mona Linden, under way to Mizushima in the Bisan-Seto East Passage, on the Japan Inland Sea, being involved in a collision with a coastal vessel. It envisaged the flooding of Mona Linden and a resultant oil spill off Takamatsu. The three-hour drill involved about 60 participants, including executives from MOL.
