There has been an encouraging response to Australia's first freefall lifeboat training centre, which opened for business next to the Port of Fremantle late last year. John Reynolds, the director of Survival Craft Inspectorate (SCI) Australia, told SASI that several courses had been run in December and January, and that the facility had been visited by shipping and offshore operators and surveyors from classification societies and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). "Once they know the facility is there, companies allocate money in their training budgets," he explained. "The growth potential is looking very strong indeed."
