The mostly Ukrainian crew of Blida, a 12,929gt bulk carrier, were expected to fly home from Mombasa, Kenya, after the ship was sold at public auction on 18 September. The ship and its crew were abandoned in the port in November 2011. On 1 January 2011 Blida was hijacked by pirates 130nm southeast of Salalah, Oman, while en route to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with 19,000 tonnes of clinker and a 2 7-strong multinational crew aboard.
