At least 36 people were killed and about 100 rescued when two ferries collided in Hong Kong at about 20.30 on 1 October, officials said. A major search-and-rescue operation was launched to find survivors from one of the ferries, which sank after the collision. More than 120 passengers and crew were estimated to have been on board the Hong Kong Electric-owned Lamma IV to watch the National Day fireworks display at Victoria Harbour.
