Cardy takes the helm at Sail Training International.

The former chief executive of the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), Peter Cardy, took over as chief executive of Sail Training International (STI) at the end of January, initially working part-time. Cardy told SAS that he believed sail training was relevant to commercial shipping and pointed out that several countries run sailing vessels as merchant navy training ships. Cardy sees sail training as an alternative way to obtain experience and qualifications that can lead to a career at sea in some sectors of the maritime industries. While still at the MCA, Cardy had backed the Smoothing the Way project initiated by the UK's Maritime Skills Alliance.
