Web-based type-specific ECDIS training

German-based e-learning company Safebridge has begun online type-specific ECDIS training. Managing director Ulf Steden said it has agreements to develop training packages built around ECDIS products from Sperry Marine, Imtech, Transas, RaytheonAnschutz and JRC. Steden added that he expects to develop similar programmes for other ECDIS suppliers in the coming year. "As the new IMO ECDIS carriage requirements come into effect in 2012, internet-based elearning provides a cost-effective training tool to meet the typespecific training requirements mandated under STCW, ISM, port state control and flag state regulations," Steden said.
