Survey lifts lid on Filipino repatriation

Nearly 4,000 Filipino seafarers were repatriated for medical reasons between 2009 and 2012, according to a recently released survey. The study by Health Metrics, which provides medical facilities for seafarers in the Philippines, found out that there were 3,882 medical repatriation cases out of 221,035 deployments during the three-year period. This produces a percentage of 1.75%, based on data from claims departments of 202 shipping companies, which represent almost 2,000 vessels.
