The Netherlands is set to use Sri Lanka's Colombo port as a hub for its anti-piracy operations in the Indian Ocean.Dutch Vessel Protection Detachment (VPD) teams will use Sri Lankan harbours under an arrangement between the two governments, the Netherlands embassy said in a statement. Sri Lanka is close to the piracy high-risk area, giving the island a strategic advantage as a base for vessel protection teams.The 31 January statement said the agreement to embark and disembark Dutch marines had been worked out with Sri Lanka's ministry of defense and urban development, including "strict regulations and procedures" to comply with Sri Lankan law on weapons and ammunition.
