In late 2013, liferaft manufacturer Survitec Group recognised a gap in the market for a SOLAS-compliant liferaft designed for use by windfarm and offshore platform operators. It noted that the operating characteristics of windfarms demanded a specialised product. The resulting design, based on the proven technology of the Survitec throw-over liferaft, has now been marketed as a davit-launched liferaft as part of the SurvitecZodiac brand. SurvitecZodiac sales director Dave Parslow told IHS Maritime that "the liferafts are available in either SOLAS A or SOLAS B packs, which will be chosen according to the proposed location of the structure". SOLAS A packs have more survival equipment for when survivors can expect to be at sea for longer.
