Russia has begun enhanced monitoring of foreign fisheries in the territorial waters of the country's Far East to crack down on companies that are not complying with international safety standards. Petr Savchuk, deputy head of Rosrybolovstvo, confirmed the move during a 22 August meeting of the regional government. Savchuk said that, based on the results of the increased monitoring, Rosrybolovstvo would consider a temporary ban on the operations of foreign fishing companies in the territorial waters of the Russian Far East until all safety violations are eliminated.
