Kitack Lim has been reelected as secretary-general of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). His second term will start on 1 January 2020, subject to the approval of the IMO Assembly in December 2019. Before being elected as IMO secretary-general in 2015, Lim was chairman of Busan Port Authority, overseeing the South Korean port's rise as the transhipment hub of northeast Asia. Since taking up the reins at the IMO, Lim has pushed ahead with the execution of the global sulphur cap in 2020.
