Companies to pay ￡125k after worker is paralysed

A 25-foot fall from a 'spider' mobile elevated work platform led to an untrained worker breaking his back, Lewes Crown Court was told during an eight-day trial. In a prosecution brought by Crawley Borough Council, facilities company Mitie Cleaning and sub-contractor County Mall Management were both found guilty on 17 February and ordered to pay a total of ￡125,000, after pleading not guilty to four breaches of health and safety legislation.
