Following a number of cases of ill health involving dermatitis, a hygiene consultant has suggested that we introduce a skin management system. Could you outline what such a system is? According to the Labour Force Survey in 2007/08, an estimated 20,000 individuals who worked in the previous 12 months suffered 'skin problems', which they believed to be work-related. Occupational skin disease is a significant cause of lost time, lost skills, and the resulting costs to industry. It also causes great distress to those suffering from the problem and may render them permanently unable to work. Systemic toxic reactions due to skin exposure and penetration can be extremely serious.
