The differences between us

The responses by Richard Paul-Jones and David F Spencer in November's Mailshot to my letter in the September issue highlight the real need to re-examine the concept of 'common sense' and evaluate its rationale.rnHuman beings are not born with an innate store of knowledge that they can draw upon to deal with situations that arise from their birth to their demise. They receive "supervision, information, instruction and training" throughout their lives, in both formal and informal ways. The system via which they are educated is diverse and cannot possibly be considered to be common - although there may be some core information, its assimilation will vary.
