John Bridle's letter in the December Mailshot raised inaccurate and misleading information about the safety of white (chrysotile) asbestos.rnWorld-wide debate and a vast amount of scientific evidence from bodies ranging from the World Health Organisation, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the Health and Safety Executive, have concluded that white asbestos is a danger to health and a cause of asbestos-related disease.rnThe danger of asbestos in schools is taken sufficiently seriously by the UK Government that Gordon Brown met the education unions this summer and has promised action. The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), and other teacher unions, are working with the HSE, and other stakeholders, to improve the management of asbestos and for its removal from all UK education premises.
