After reading the negative comments on the proposed CDM changes, I feel I must write in support of them. I work at the sharp end of the roofing industry where we suffer the fatal consequences and costs of building designers' poor H&S designs. It says it all when one commentator stated that designers won't feel competent to take on the designer role. Surely H&S must be an integral part of any designer's role! Making a principal designer responsible for pre-start construction planning is long overdue. We have a principal contractor role that works well, so why not have a principal designer?
