摘要

A new single standard for construction vehicles in London has been launched, designed to make London roads safer and to reduce cyclist deaths and injuries. Following the deaths of six cyclists in London in the space of two weeks in November 2013, Olympic cyclist Chris Boardman called on Boris Johnson to consider emulating Paris and ban heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) on some of London's roads during peak hours. Of the 14 cyclist fatalities in the UK in 2013, nine involved an HCV. In Paris, where there are restrictions on lorries, there were no cycling fatalities in 2012, according to the Prefecture of Police of Paris. The Mayor told BBC London 94.9 that he was not convinced by the argument to ban HCVs and said there needed to be a "much bigger conversation" about them and the danger they pose when turning left.
