Dr. Trevor Kletz -1922 - 2013

One of the world's utmost authorities on chemical process safety has died. Dr. Trevor Kletz, who passed away on 31 October 2013, aged 91, was widely regarded as the father of industrial process safety and inherently safer design. In a career spanning almost 70 years he authored numerous books and articles, establishing the field. The recipient of the 2006 IOSH Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Kletz discovered solutions to the causes of some of the worst industrial disasters of modern times. These included the release of toxic vapour at Bhopal in India, which killed more than 2,000 people, and the fire and explosion at Piper Alpha, which claimed 167 lives.
