Historically, travelers driving to or from Phoenix have used one of five available highways to enter or exit the metro area. The largest portion of those drivers uses Ⅰ-10. The interstate highway links Phoenix to Los Angeles on the city's west side and to Tucson, El Paso and the southeastern U.S. on its south side. On the north side of the Valley, Ⅰ-17 provides the conduit for traffic to and from Flagstaff and its junction with Ⅰ-40.
